Why I Write
With the launch of my podcast and website, writing a blog is a fitting first step in my adventure to (hopefully) becoming a successful writer. The journey, I am sure, will take its natural twists and turns along the way, trudging over rocky paths and coursing through muddy water, but through it all what matters to me is continuing to do what I love to do — WRITE!
Why do I write? To lay it out as simply as I can, I love writing because I enjoy sharing the epic fantasy stories, characters, and worlds that I’ve created. For me, it’s not enough to think of interesting characters, exciting plots twists, and fantastic settings. I’ve always had a strong desire, dating back to when I was a kid, to put my stories to paper and share with others.
There’s something wonderful that Tolkien accomplished and that others have since been able to successfully replicate. Tolkien created a fantastic world that is very real in the hearts of thousands, and quite possibly millions, of people. When I read through Lord of the Rings, or any number of other wonderfully crafted fantasy stories, it doesn’t just seem to me that a great story was told. Rather, an entire world that was very much real in the mind of its creator has become real to those who explore it themselves. These epic stories may not be in truly real, but in the minds of all those who read and cherish them, they are fantastically very real.
It seems to me that I would be doing myself a great disservice by not bringing my world, my characters, and my stories into that realm of fantastical reality. I desire the stories I’ve put together to be experienced by you, the characters that are very really to be introduced to you, and the worlds that I’ve designed to be explored by you. To me, writing and reading in the fantasy genre is not simply telling a story that brings temporary enjoyment only while being read. Quite the contrary, I desire that after a story is told that the reader can find further enjoyment by feeling a connection to the characters that came and went, wondering about further repercussions the world may experience based on the protagonists’ final decisions, and feeling a sense of wonder that they were able to experience a fantastic outside of their own reality.
Why do I write? I write to bring my stories, characters, and worlds to a fantastic reality for others.
